Volunteering

The Auróra Climate Garden is not only a green oasis in the middle of the city, but also a dedicated community, kept alive by volunteers who contribute their time, energy, and creativity to ensure the garden continues to grow and become an ever more beautiful, sustainable place.

Our volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds: students, teachers, artists, linguists, activists, and passionate city dwellers. But they all have one thing in common: they believe that we can all do something to mitigate the impact of climate change and make the world a better place by connecting nature and community.

  • Gardening – Planting, composting, care and maintenance
  • Community building – Organizing workshops, open days and events
  • Creative projects – Art installations, nature-based solutions
  • Online support – Social media management, application writing, communication
  • Welcoming new volunteers – Information, integration assistance
  • You can make a real impact – You work for a greener, more livable city.
  • You can gain new knowledge – while gardening we learn a lot about the natural environment, biodiversity, climate, water management.
  • You can learn new skills – Whether it’s permaculture, community organizing or sustainable solutions.
  • You can build connections – You can meet inspiring people.
  • You can recharge – A garden is a peaceful refuge from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
  1. Come visit us to take a look around, ask questions, and decide if this project is really for you. The Climate Garden is different from traditional community gardens, so it’s worth doing some research beforehand.
  2. Fill out the application form: AT THIS LINK
  3. We will contact you and invite you to our next open day, where you can meet the team and learn more about how the garden works.
  4. Finally, visit the garden regularly, or you can also support our work online.

I first came to the garden for research for a performance project. I feel in love with it’s wild beauty and wanted to understand more about how it works. Or rather how to simply be present. I am a movement researcher and yoga teacher and i’ve been hosting meditations here in the garden since 2023.

Dani

For me, the garden is a refuge from the environment we have created in our cities. It soothes the senses, reduces the urban heat island effect, fosters a sense of community, and teaches us that prioritizing biodiverse, self-sustaining, and interconnected green spaces in cities is a shared intellectual, physical, and economic interest for all of us. This stands in contrast to wasteful land use, such as car storage—after all, this garden itself was transformed from a parking lot into a forest.

I found the Garden in 2021 while looking for a community composter, and it has been an important part of my life ever since. I am proud that as volunteers we were able to build such an amazing oasis from waste. Every little step counts, and I feel like I am having a real, positive impact on the environment. 🌿✨

Since I started composting here in 2019, the Climate Garden has been a personal oasis from the stress of urban life, a tonic for my body, my social life and my spirits. A hopeful place to think about bugs, birds and soil bacteria, worms, weeds and trees but also climate, community and city life. The more I volunteer – the more I can connect to natural cycles – the richer my life is.

I love the Aurora climate garden project because I think it’s very important to have community based green spaces in the city, and it shows how easy and fun it can be, how nature can thrive everywhere so spontaneously if we just give it a little hint and some love. Bring your compost and your enthusiasm and you’ll be welcomed! Stay blessed.

I joined the garden in 2024 during an open day. I love it because I can be in a community here with like-minded people, while knowing that we are doing a lot to help others understand the essence of how the climate works, which this garden demonstrates.

In 2020, I visited the Aurora Climate Garden as part of an urban permaculture training course. A few months later, I made a ceramic worm composter to recycle kitchen waste and started volunteering at the Climate Garden. Over the years, the garden and its community have grown and become a second home where I can keep learning about the natural environment, climate, permaculture principles and how communities work. Today, volunteering for me has gone far beyond the garden gate: it has led to new gardens, trainings, projects and communities.

My first experience as a Climate Garden volunteer was when we pruned a dangerous branch from a tree of heaven in shifts with Mark. As a thinker and writer deeply engaged with philosophy I have soon become overwhelmed by this well-organized anarchy. Rewilding.

In 2024, while exploring green spaces in the area, I stumbled upon this beautiful garden and felt inspired to join the community as a volunteer right away. I truly believe that to build a liveable and sustainable future, we must increasingly return urban spaces to nature, so I’m grateful to be part of such a meaningful initiative in my neighbourhood.🌳
