For a long time, women’s literature followed the patterns set by male writers and poets, using a language that was not shaped by women’s lived experiences. In order to write texts that are honest, visible, and truly speak in our own voice, we need to find – or rebuild – our own language.

At the same time, as women, we continuously struggle with visibility in everyday life: the right to speak, to be present, and to have our bodies and experiences accepted as they are. Because of this, there is often little space left for authentic self-expression, and this challenge appears both in artistic work and in writing. To be able to peel away the layers of social expectations that have built up over the years around us and our work, we need communities, honest conversations, and safe spaces.

During the Visible Writing workshop, we will:
✦ experiment with creative writing
✦ discuss Hélène Cixous’s text “The Laugh of the Medusa”
✦ reflect on womanhood and visibility
✦ work with ritual elements
✦ create together in a community setting

You don’t need to be a writer, and sharing the texts you create during the workshop is not mandatory. Curiosity about yourself is enough.

The workshop is open to FLINTA* participants.
Children are welcome at the event, and the venue is dog-friendly.
Unfortunately, the space is not wheelchair accessible.

The workshop is led by Julcsi Domján (Zabella Zine). She works with community-based literary publications and zines, facilitates workshops, and creates also with a feminist focus. She is currently a participant in the Szendvicsbár Residency Program, where she is working with her collaborators on the Csikágói Szomszédok zine.
